How to Tell a Great Story!
How to Tell a Great Story!
This is a story about storytelling and how to succeed in marketing, communications, public affairs, or advocacy.
Today people aren’t interested in the FACTS you have to share; they are interested in the STORIES you have to share. Why? Stories are MEMORABLE.
Life is made up of moments, the stories in your life. That’s what you remember.
Name the fact events in your life that you remember? Maybe your age, birthdays, anniversaries, etc., but not much more. Facts are sterile. STORIES HAVE EMOTION, which is why we remember. Stories can touch our lives and our hearts.
Marketers spend billions to send us messages yet how many do you remember?
Do you get excited to watch a commercial? Do print ads touch your heart?
We are now in a content curation world.
Create great content, interesting and relevant stories, or die.
Ask yourself, “Why would anyone care about this?” Be honest. Why? Because traditional marketing messages rarely connect!
Whether you are at a speaking event, creating a news release, content for a blog website or social media, unless people would pay for the content or go out of their way to read/view it, STOP and create an INTERESTING and RELEVANT story, otherwise you have just created meaningless noise.
